Gering Girls Go 1-1 Over the Weekend

This past weekend the Gering Girls had back to back games one on friday night at home against Chadron and Saturday at Cougar Palace against rival Scottsbluff. The 1st game of the back to back against Chadron was a low scoring affair that the Bulldogs would win 41-32. The Bulldogs would struggle getting the offense rolling in the first half, only scoring 19 points but would take a 7 point advantage into the locker room. The bulldogs would continue there excellent defense in the 2nd half holding the Cardinals to 20 second half points and to a total of 32 for the game. Kelly Snelling led Gering in scoring pouring in 16 points followed by Jenna Balthazor who scored 8 points. Getting this win put the bulldogs back over .500 for the season with a record of 6-5. Gering would try to continue their winning ways Saturday at WNCC against Scottsbluff. Gering would get off to a good start in the 1st quarter leading 17-15 heading into the 2nd quarter. However, the Bearcats would outscore Gering in the 2nd quarter 23-8. Which would give Scottsbluff a 13 point lead heading into halftime and the Bulldogs were never able to fully recover from the 2nd quarter barrage that Scottsbluff had. Gering was able to cut the Bearcat lead to 6 multiple times in the 4th quarter but would eventually fall 60-51 at the hands of Scottsbluff. Kelly Snelling would lead the way for the Bulldogs tallying 12 points. Gering will try to bounce back tuesday when they host the 3-3 Torrington Trailblazers.
